Additional Comments
I think Dr. Phelps is a good teacher and would highly reccomend him. He is a pretty intersting guy and makes the class not so bad. Most class periods will consist of lecture and discussion. He writes all his notes on the board and does not typically use powerpoints. He will post a few reading on BB but does not post grades. There are also very few grades taken. There are 3 exams one of which is the non cummalitive final. He has an activity called meeting of the minds which requires you to research a person of your choice, write a 3-4 page paper about them and represent them in class one day. He also had us do one other short writing assignment and these were the only grades. The tests consit of various types of questions. The essays are pretty straight forward. If you paid attention at all you should be able to pick out a few you can answer. You will write your essays in blue books. I thought Dr. Phelps made the class enjoyable and he realizes not everyone enjoys history. I found it interesting that he would often present an event and the facts and ask you to interpret what it all meant. You were always allowed to draw your own conclusions as long as you could provide backing to your thoughts.
