Additional Comments |
UGH. I didn't like Dr. Abbot. At all. Does she know her history? Absolutely. Is she capable of keeping your attention? Absolutely.
Unfortunately, she seems to be one of those "My class is the most important class you'll ever take" teachers. Then again, who isn't? Anyway, she doesn't seem too awful pleasant and she looks as though she's always pissed off about something.
If your answer in class isn't what she wants, don't be surprised if she takes it personally and takes subtle jabs at you over it. I made that mistake and she had a fit. She asked what economist Adam Smith thought of something and I answered. Of course, my previous research on Smith and his work was irrelevant and her opinion reigned supreme. That happened with a few other students as well. I eventually dropped. I got a C on my only test in her class, and the test wasn't too awful hard, but it wasn't a cakewalk.
If you're a history major or will need this course before moving on to other history courses, it's probably a good idea to take Dr. Abbott. Despite her god-awful personality, you'll get a deep and thorough lesson in history. If you're like me and are taking a history class simply to fulfill a Gen Ed requirement, find another professor. There's no point in having to bust your butt to the nth degree to knock out a Gen Ed requirement.
