Western Kentucky University / O / Travis Olson

Travis Olson is an AMAZING teacher! Ive taken him for Math 211 and 212 and will probably take him if he teaches another class I need. He takes his time to make sure all of his students learn the material. There are some days that he just goes over one thing the whole class time which seems boring. His teaching style is DIFFERENT.I feel like its more like a think outside of the box class . He really makes you think about the way you look at things and the way others could look at the problem you are trying to solve. He loves when his students come up with ways he didnt think about. He also loves when students ask him for help. If you cant meet him at his office hours he will set up a time with you. Hes an AMAZING teacher.

I have never been a fan of math and have always struggled with it. Mr. Olson really changed the way I looked at math. All of my other math teachers made things so difficult and completely irrelevant to life. However, Mr. Olson took a different approach and applied things to real life and situations we, as future teachers, will someday encounter. He usually gives out homework assignments after each class but not all of them are for a grade. If you have questions about the homework it is important to meet with him during his office hours, as he does not really go over it in class. Mr. Olson does not fly through things he teaches. He takes his time and makes sure that every student who wants to learn the material does, and feels comfortable with it. Some days he will spend the entire class talking about one thing, which might sound boring, but if you get what he is talking about than you can just listen to his explanations and try to help those who don't understand. He does take attendance every day but it does not really count towards your grade too much. He lets you do a lot of group work and conversing with your peers which I think is really helpful. His tests are sometimes long but he gives you a choice on which math problems you do. Say there were three sections on the test, he would give you like 7 problems within each section, 2 mandantory problems and then you can choose 3 other problems of your choice to answer. Even if you don't get the correct answer he gives you points for just trying to work the problem. This is one of the only math classes I have ever taken that I actually enjoyed.

Professor Olson is an AMAZING math teacher! I am not good at math at all but he makes you look at things totally different! He is a very understanding person and is very willing to help. TAKE OLSON!
