This class is required at WKU. I thought it was a waste of time and extremely easy. I have some background in writing and did not learn anything in the class. There are about five research papers one must write throughout this class and lots of really elementary exercises to be completed in class. The syllabus makes the class seem extremely difficult, but it is one of the easiest classes I have ever taken.

Dr. Endres is a great teacher. He only requires 3 papers the whole semester, which you write about your major. And you are allowed to edit them multiple times. He never gives homework, but there were multiple reading quizzes. He was very funny and caring though. I recommend to take him for sure!!

I enjoyed taking Dr. Niko this semester. He is an awesome teacher and easy to get along with. We wrote 3 papers, 5 to 7 pages in length, and he grades fairly easy. If you have to take this class, I highly recommend him.

I like Dr. Endres as a person, but I hated his class. It seemed like we did a lot of busy work that was irrelevant to the class. We would read articles and present them to the class like every class period. I was assigned articles about Disneyworld, sleeping habits, and random stuff like that. I just didn't see how that was helping my writing skills. This class would be much better if it was online, trust me. We had a few editing exams that didn't count for much, but other than that, your grade was all papers. Three seven-page research papers, all topics within your major. He acts like he grades really hard, but I think he graded pretty easy. Just try to take this class online and save yourself a lot of pointless work.

There are 2 tests (mid-term and a final), 2 papers written over whatever you want, and a presentation. He places you in groups at the beginning of the year and it actually worked out well--my group is now a great group of friends. There are many novels you cover, but you dont necessarily have to have them completely read as Niko lectures and asks questions to the class. Whenever you contribute, however, he will probably just tell you you're wrong and then give you the right answer. Very nice, very easy going, and loves to wear his shirts half open so his pecs can breathe. Overall, a great class--you really learn to analyze sexuality in all literature.

The reason I did not post a grade or class is because I have had Dr. Endres for many classes. British Lit and World Lit were two of the classes. I received a B the first time and an A the second time. I think my grade improved because I found out what he expects.
He is a interesting teacher and provides insight into the readings. He was one of the first professors I had at Western so it was a nice welcome. He is friendly and will talk to you about other topics besides the class materials. This relationship helps because you can get to know each other and learn how to work together in class discussions.
Advice to others: Come to class, though he was not hard on those who did not, if you do come but do not listen much or do not come, the main thing to do in order to do well is read the readings. This does not have to be completed really until the midterm or final exam. The readings from the beginning to midterm are on the midterm. The readings from after midterm to the end are on the final. You will have to identify passages and explain them for both exams, and there is also a essay on each exam. There is also two papers to write, but as long as they are interesting and well-written you should do well.
I would highly recommend Dr. Endres and hope to have him again before I graduate.

writing is a difficult process, if you're not the best at it. you have 3 research papers over the semesters..you're choice on the topics as they have to relate to your major. get a head start on the papers..the time flys! go to every class!! he counts that! there are editing exams that don't count much, just practice. read the reading assignments as he gives pop quizzes over random things over the assignment..like the authors names, titles, meanings..etc. not a bad class, he's really nice. edit your paper to the max if you want to get an A on it..i had a friend help me out a lot. good luck!

It's obvious Dr. Endres is a very intelligent man. He knows his literature and is very passionate about teaching. But when you spend your whole class period watching him read from a sheet of paper, your opinion dwindles because the class is so dull. On top of that, some of the stories we had to read were downright awful. I know that is not Dr. Endres' fault entirely, but on top of the boring readings (which were usually 60 pages every class period you have to read for homework) him reading off of a piece of paper instead of sharing his own knowledge by memory makes the class seem pointless. I did enjoy the group assingments and you also have to stand in front of the class twice to give a presentation on a review of a piece of work that you are reading in class. Dr. Endres gives you the review, so it's pretty easy. The class itself is pretty easy if you pay attention and don't fall behind in the reading, but it can be very boring.
He only has a midterm and final. Both have identifications that you have to identify and give an explanation about it. He also has one essay on both tests, but on your reviews he gives you the essay questions, so you can study and decide which one you want to write.

This class is in no way hard, but it is still extremely difficlt to get an A. You do grammar exams where you correct short essays. These are not worth many points though and aren't much to stress about. It's hard to tell where your grade comes from. Just start on your papers EARLY. You will be left in the dark as to what your grade is. Dr. Endres is very nice though. But if you like to know where you stand in a class, don't take him. Also I think he might grade a little on whether he agrees with your arguments in your paper. I just don't know where the grades come from. WEIRD.

Niko is one of the best teachers you can take for World Lit or Brit Lit I. His "paper assignments" can be anything: creative, a painting, a poem, a movie (some guy just did a movie it was awesome)... as long as it relates to the material. He is open and honest, he respects his students. Your opinions matter and your thoughts matter. His tests are difficult, but if you have read and you do the study sheet (even though it seems pointless) you'll receive an A.

This class was wonderful! If I could have Dr. Endres for every Lit class I have to have, then I would take him. He's knowledgeable and willing to help. The tests are a different format than I have ever had before, but they're not bad. He gave us 10-15 quotes from various works we studied and we had to say four facts about each quote. There is one essay at the end. He gives you the essay questions in advance, which is great. I highly recommend taking Dr. Endres!

Dr. Endres is an excellent and dedicated professor. He is really not as hard as people say he is, but you do have to work in his class. There is no textbook, but you do have to buy a lot of little paperbacks. The class is mostly discussion and he expects you to participate. There are a couple of papers, and the midterm and final are both essay and identification answers.

The other Gay & Lesbian Lit entry is a very detailed and accurate account of Dr. Endres' teaching abilities and the way he grades. One tip for anyone taking a class titled Gay & Lesbian Lit., don't be surprised when the subject matter is ABOUT gay characters or authors. People kept commenting in my class..."I'm tired of hearing about all these gay people!" Dr. Endres is very interesting but is in no way typical. If you are closed minded take another class.

Dr. Endres (he prefers Niko) was one of the better professors I had. Contrary to what some may tell you, the class is not that difficult, and he is somewhat easy in his grading. From what I understand, his class was easier than other Eng. 300 classes. There are no tests and only a few quizes. We had some class assignments, but they were never taken up for a grade. However, attendance is a MUST. You have to write 3, possibly 4, research papers. It's actually not that bad because he gives lots of class time for research and writing. In the end, his class was not near as hard as I though it would be. Aside from that, Endres is a very nice man to be around; he's extremely intelligent, and he's unbelievably handsome...not that his good looks have anything to do with his teaching methods, but who cares?

Many people on profeval.com have tried to make Dr. Endres look like some fierce lion -- in reality, he's just a little pussy cat. That's not to say you won't learn anything. In fact, I would say that this is one of the most edifying and enjoyable classes I have ever had at Western, and Dr. Endres lectures with passion and rigor. But as another poster said, all this talk of him never giving A's is malarkey; he's actually a very fair grader, and doesn't really spill that much red ink over your papers. His tests are mostly quote identification with one essay question, but he gives you a study sheet the night before with similar quotation questions and the same essay question that is on the exam. This gives you good examples for the quotes and ample time to think out your essay. Course work includes two papers, two exams, and several group presentations. Here, you are asked to give a pretty informal presentation on an article / film / text... and he gives you complete freedom on your presentation style. For papers, he also gives you the freedom to write creative responses to the books; if you want to write about Plato fighting McGyver, you can... as long as it has some relevance to your study of The Symposium.
But the most flattering thing I can say about Dr. Endres is not the course work, but the man himself. He's probably one of the most passionate young intellectuals I've ever met and always finds some way to make class interesting and fun. If you get the chance to take him for anything, I would urge you to jump on the oppurtunity. He's the bomb-diggity.

You are required to write three research papers for this class. Do not let that scare you away, because some ENG 300 classes require you to write up to seven. Mr. Endres is a great professor. Prior to taking his class, I had heard that he was awful and that he "never gave A's." That is totally incorrect. If you hear that, let it go in one ear and out the other. The person that gave him a bad review on Profeval spelled his name incorrectly. If I was you, I would not listen to anyone who could not get that correct. If you need help with your papers, talk to Mr. Endres. He is easy to approach and always willing to help. I highly suggest taking this class with him, and I know that I would do it again if I was registering for an English 300 class and knew what I know about his class.

If you're looking for an easy class, don't take Dr. Endres. He's a really nice professor, but he expects you to try and do your best. It is a 300 level class after all.
He has you do 3 research papers that often have to do with your major. They have to be 5-6 pages long and you have to pay close attention to grammar.
A lot of time spent on grammar, punctuation, etc. There are 3 editing exams that help you out on this stuff.
If you could probably predict your grade before turning in your paper, that's probably what you'll get. You can't just slap some words on a paper and pretend like you know what you're talking about. He's really smart and he knows if you're just trying to make it longer or if you're just blabbing about stuff.
NO FINAL- we just do the papers and the last one he has you do a small presentation on in front of the class. Not to worry! It helps very much believe it or not.
He's not boring at all. He always lets everyone give input on everything. He get's easier as the semester goes by.
OVERALL- good class, I learned a lot. English is sort of my thing, but other students in the class that hate English made higher grades than I did... I definitely recommend him.

Dr. Endres is a challenging teacher, but he does not disregard your opinions as some evaluators have said before. He is one of the most intelligent people that I have ever met. I is ALWAYS prepared for class and gives you the research for your own presentations. I have never had to wait over 1 class meeting to get my papers or tests back. Dr. Endres genuinely cares about his students and his work. Therefore, he challenges us to think more in depth. Some students in my class were lazy and didn't attend many meetings. That's why they struggled on the exams and got poor participation grades. If you want to sleep through class, then stay away from Dr. Endres. But if you want to learn or be challenged, then sign up today.

Professor says that he rarely gives "A's." "An 'A' is perfection and very few people are perfect." He failed to mention this tiny detail before we could drop the class. Don't take him. Mr. Endres is a nice guy, however his class is not like I thought it was going to be. You will write 4 or 5 research papers and have quizzes on grammar such as commas and puncuation. If you miss more than 5 times, you will get a F. If you are late, you will be counted absent. If you have trouble make sure and talk to him and he will help. He only gave one A last semester!
