Mike is a cool guy. You basically come to class, draw, and leave. At midterm and final, you show him all of your work you've done and he gives you your grade based on that. If you can't draw, then you don't get a good grade for effort. Grades are literally based on how good you are. So don't take it expecting it to be an easy grade.

Mike is great, simply put. Sometimes he seems like his head is somewhere else and you have to wait for him to beam back to earth when you ask a question but he's a really easy going, fun professor and he'll even tell you to call him Mike. If you don't have previous art skill you definitely want to take Nichols for any art class you take because he's the most lenient in grading. He also loves it when you take his advice on a project, or at least consider it. All of your grades are either short reading quizes, or your design projects, most of which are actually fun to do. Take Nichols, seriously.

I like Mike. He is a younger guy who likes to play HALO if that tells you anything. He is really nice and pushes you to do well. At times he seems to be too much of a perfectionist but you must keep in mind he is preparing you for the real world!! Class is pretty long but it gives you plenty of time to work on your projects and he helps you- so go! You will need to read the book, because he gives little quizes which are really easy, there like 3 questions about the reading assignment.

Mike's design class is fun and challenging. Every design he assigns challanges you to dig deeper which can be a lot of hard work but's it's still a lot of fun.

Mike is a great teacher. He knows the subject very well and is always willing to help you out when you need him. If you're very good with constructive criticism, he'll do that every now and then. Overall, you'll really like his class.

Mike it good, he is 31 years old so he is like a kid at heart. He is very good and patient with all students, and if you can get him for Drawing at any time take him, the only reason I got a C in this class is cause I overslept most of the time, trust me!

Mike is an amazing artist and professor. He really knows what he is talking about and it benefits you as a student. He watches your progress and really wants you to succeed so he will do what it takes to help you in any way possible. He wants you to keep your individuality as an artist, but strengthens your skills and abilities. He arranged to get us a model which was great because we got to practice proportions and drawing the human figure. He really gives all he has into his work. I highly recommend having him in class.

I had him for his first semester at Western and he is an amazing teacher and artist. You need to attend class, but mainly for the experience of working with him on your projects. Mike really knows his stuff which helps you in the class. There are no tests, but there are quizzes over chapters in the book. It does cost to be in the class, you have to buy all of your gouache which isn't cheap, but if you are taking any art class, be prepared to pay for your supplies and have them in class when you are supposed to. There are about 6-7 small projects you do... and a design concept notebook... work on that throughout the semester because it is time consuming.

Mike is a really nice guy and he helps you out. We had easy short quizes over chapters in the textbook (which is easy to read and short.) The biggest part of our grade came from projects that we had to do based on the elements and principles of art. Mike grades based on: Solving the Problem (what the assignment asks you to do,) Effort (which requires attendance,) and Neatness (which can bite you in the butt.) If you take care in creating your work and matt it correctly, you should make an A. Also, if you show up and do your best in the class, you are likely to get an A. Homework is only when you don't finish your projects in class or you have to read a chapter but, thats about it. I suggest Mike for this course.
