Many people are skeptical on taking this course at the beginning because of the content that is taught but I thoroughly enjoyed this class. I never missed class because you got points deducted from your final grade at the end of the semester. There is a group project, 7 page paper, quizzes, and 3 exams so there is a lot of work but plenty of time and chances to make good grades. Mrs. Sales is probably the best professor I've ever had at WKU. She is educated, funny, caring, and fair. I felt comfortable talking to her in and out of the class. If you take this class, please take it with her because she is the absolute best!

Even though this class was a Gen Ed, I LOVED it. Mrs. Sales is easily one of the best teachers I've had since coming to WKU. Not only does she genuinely care about the success of each of her students but she also makes her students love what they learn and look forward to going to class. Mrs. Sales offers a ton of extra credit and wants you to succeed in her class. TAKE HER FOR THIS CLASS! You won't regret it!

Mrs. Sales is AWESOME! She cares so much about her students and it shows in her teaching. Her personality makes this course so much fun. There are 2 tests and a comprehensive final. Also, a group portfolio and presentation are due at the end of the semester but she gives you the whole semester to prepare. I would definitely take this professor again if I had the chance!

This was my favorite class!!!! I loved going!!!! Mrs. Sales is a wonderful professor and she really loves teaching this class. She is kind and she wants to get to know each of her students. She learns everyone's name, which makes the class feel welcoming. I learned a lot in this class. I am white and have to say this class was my favorite class I have taken at WKU. I think if you have the chance, take this class with Mrs. Sales. You won't regret taking this class. And the class is fairly easy if you study a little.

Mrs. Sales is awesome!!! I wish that she taught other courses!!! WKU needs more professors like her. She is genuinely interested in the student and them doing well in the class. She wants the students to learn, not memorize. Start early on your portfolio...Really, I did mine by the end of the second week...So glad. Most students waited until right before the due date and they ended up doing poorly and/or turned them in late. The group project is fun and interesting. It allows students to explore the concepts of the class, creatively. If you have question, talk to her. She is super nice.
The quizes and test material: she tells you, therefore, take NOTES!!!

Don't get me wrong, Mrs. Sales is a nice lady and cares a lot about her students but I found this class difficult because I never knew quite what to expect. Some of the test questions would be worded poorly where two choices would both be correct but of course only one would be right. Also, the textbook is terrible as it's written by a member of the Nation of Islam and the text likes to blame white people for everything which I found uncomfortable and ridiculous. If you think you'll learn a lot taking this class your mistaken because the bi-term makes the class go at a ridiculously quick pace and you never cover topics in-depth.
The grade breakdown sees you take occassional quizzes that are 25 points each and can be very tricky, three tests that are worth 100 point each and are the same way, a group project (a group that is selected for you mind you) worth 100 points, a participation/attendance grade worth 100 points, and a portfolio at the end of the class (where you summarize 15 news articles concerning African-Americans WHICH YOU SHOULD DO ASAP) worth 100 points.

I really enjoyed this class. I am not a black person, but Mrs. Sales is great at making everyone feel comfortable in the class. It is a biterm so the classes are a bit long, but we had alot of fun and did skits as part of the final. I made alot of friends in the class, it is very interactive. You do have a final project, do not wait until the last minute to begin working on this, it is a big part of the grade. The tests are hard, if you don't study. She does give chances for extra credit and I suggest you take those opportunities. She is not a very hard grader, if you show up and put effort into the class.

This is the best class on the campus with the best teacher teaching it. Mrs Sales is a fair and easy teacher. She works with you and will do anything to help you but if you do not help yourself first you can forget it. I could actually sit through this class for two hrs. and not be bored. Mrs. Sales knows what she is talking about. I love her to Death I hate that it was only a Bi-term class but in the lenght of time you have in this class you learn a lot. By the way her final is the easiest test you will take. it is only about 20 questions with a lot of bouns take this class if you get the chance. I love this class. The only reason i had a b was because i missed a quizz other than that it is an easy a if you listen and study what she talks about because what she say is likely on the test you have which is only 2

This class is amazing. Although the title is African American Experience, one does not need to be black to take and understand this class. It is an eye opening experience for all colors and creeds. Mrs. Sales is an amazing person and a phenomenal teacher! By the end of your class, you might even call her a friend. She is very thorough and easy to understand and she brings concepts to your level where you can relate and understand them as a young adult. I would recommend this class to anyone! I wish I could take it again!

Mrs. Sales is soooooooo sweet and so smart. Being a a non-african american in the class i was worried id be looked down upon. Not so she teaches from as un-biased a standpoint as she possibly can. If you get the chance take this class with this teacher it is enlightening and not hard at all. If I can get an B than anyone can get an A. Very enlightening class. God bless

I feel the need to rate Ms.Sales because I want to encourage all students to take her class. In Afam 190 you will broaded your prospectives and beliefs toward the African American culture. The class is very straight foward. You will need your textbook. Notes are taken in class. The notes that are given are very easy to understand. If you study your notes and come to class you will do above average. I encourage all students to work on their portfolio and group presentations as much as possible. Ms.Sales is a wonderful instructor. She has a great personality and you can't help but smile when you are in her class. Afam 190 is not boring. :o)

Professor Sales was pregnant the semester I had her so she wasn't up to par so to speak- she was pretty much close to lazy in some cases. You will use your book, you must know your notes and study like any other class, but aside from that if you just basically come to class and listen, you should do fine on the tests. There is an overabundance of extra-credit in this class if you do mess up though. I recommend that one should do their portfolio early and turn it in well before the due date. It will creep up on you before you know it and you don't want to find yourself doing it the night before because that sucks! The same thing with the group presentation that u will have to do. Meet early! Make sure your group is organized, creative, and making steady progress throughout the semester so that you'll do well in the end. You'll have fun in this class.
