Dr. Snyder is a great lecturer. You will not find the class boring. You will write your hand off taking notes, but that's just part of any history class. He is affable in class and helpful when it comes to the research paper and book reviews. 5-6 texts are required and the reading is substantial but not unreasonable. This is, after all, a senior/graduate level course. Great experience. I learned a lot.

Being a seminar class there were no tests, no final. Only several papers and a large GROUP project. You do need to buy the books and you do need to read them but the class was not hard, it was a good amount of work but nothing to stress over, i have 18hrs during this semester. So if you get the chance take snyder for anything hes an awesome guy and an awesome teacher.

Dr. Snyder is one of my favorite professors. Yes, I did get a C, but that is only because I skipped one too many classes. I skipped mostly because of less-than-ideal attendance. So do not skip to many classes.
He is funny and interesting. He has a ton of knowledge of religion after the 1940's and you'll learn a lot. It's good cocktail party type information you can use to impress your friends with.
He's in the dean's office now, so take a class when he can teach it!

Dr. Snyder is a really great professor that loves what he does and really enjoys teaching and talking to his students. I had him in the Humanities Semester and he always managed to keep the course interesting and to never completely swamp us with work. His sincere enjoyment of his subject filters through and raises the interest level for the people in his class just by hearing how passionate he is about his topic. He has a tendency towards baseball humor (he loves the Cubs) and corny jokes, but that just adds to the overall fun of the class. He assigns three essays over three different books. Two of the essays must be completed and if all three are done, he takes the highest two grades from the essays. He gives two tests, a midterm and a final, and if you pay attention they aren't difficult at all. He is a really great teacher and although he only teaches one class per semester now that he is assistant dean, I would reccommend his class to anyone whether they are interested in religious studies or not.

The course itself is pretty hard, but if you are looking for a good teacher, this is the one!!! He actually works with you on things, he makes it interesting, and actually works on befriending you, not just teaching you. P.S. He likes the Chicago Cubs

Dr Snyder is a great prof. He makes the study of religion a very interesting topic, even if you weren't into it prior to taking his course. The honors section consisted of readings and novels, not a specific text. I found the class to be enjoyable and would recommend it, and Dr Snyder, to anyone.

I LOVED this class! It's an extremely interesting course. Dr. Snyder is intelligent and seems to enjoy teaching this class. We read a lot, took notes, and had quizes each week. We would also have writing assignments some weeks. Dr. Snyder's class truely let me enjoy and appreciate my first semester of college.

This is a wonderful class and professor for anyone remotely interested in learning about the major religions of the world. Dr. Snyder is fun, easy going, and really knows his stuff. He expects his students to work, but he is not over demanding. The readings are managable and for the most part very enjoyable. The tests are fairly constructed and graded. I highly recommend this class with Dr. Snyder, along with anything else he teaches.

There's no doubt that the content of this class WAS interesting. However, you must read about four books and write reports on nearly all of them. Tests are EXTREMELY comprehensive and your answers must be both detailed and quite elaborate. The only extra credit opportunity involves (yep, you guessed it)...reading a book and writing a detailed report on it. Your hand will ache from taking notes. Your head will ache from the vast amount of information presented.

Dr. Snyder was an excellent teacher. I received a C because the Hum. Semester just kind of overwhelmed me, but if I was to take other phil/rel. classes, I would definitely want him again.

Dr. Snyder is one of the best teachers Western has to offer. He is interesting, dynamic, and passionate about what he teaches. If every professor was like that, students could not help but learn. I've had him for a number of classes, and I have enjoyed them thoroughly. THought-provoking discussions, well-chosen and interesting reading, creative assignments, and hilarious Biblical puns make his classes some of the best I've ever had. Verily, verily, I say unto you, take him or feel the wrath of God.
