The course content should not have been that difficult...she was very unorganized and you never really knew what she wanted. I do not work well w/out organization so this class was not a favorite for me. It was all online so I think that made it a bit more difficult. She also expected many assignments to be snail mailed or delivered to WKU which made no sense to me when they could have been uploaded electronically. If you are going to teach an online class you need to acept work turned in online.

Dr. Pierce was no help at all in this course. She often returned hateful emails to me when I asked about assignments and waited until after they were due to respond to me. She ended up getting my research paper which was the critical performance mixed up with another girl in my class and ended up giving me an incomplete until I re-did my research paper. I recieved no help and only more hateful emails threatening to fail me if I didn't turn my paper in 3 weeks early! I would avoid taking Dr. Pierce at all costs if possible. Her assignments were pointless and time consuming and didn't really help prepare me for my future classroom at all. Really the only thing her class did was make me dread curriculum all together and discourage me.

If you are seriously interested in learning about education DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Mrs. Pierce is on a huge power trip and will make your class hell. This course should be an introductory class for this field. HOWEVER; I felt as if I was learning more about 5th grade social studies then education. Do yourself a favor and dont take this class! She's miserable

I really like Dr. Pierce. Yes, she can be difficult at times, but she is a sweet lady with funny (yet random) stories who cares about her students, even though you may not think she does. My biggest complaint against Dr. Pierce is that she is very, very bad at telling you what she wants in her assignments, then marks you off for ridiculous things (like APA and grammatical errors that really aren't errors). I felt like there was a lot of busywork in this course. All in all, if you stay on top of things and maintain constant communication with Dr. Pierce, you will be fine. I know she cares about us because she cancelled our final exam when i took the J-term class, even though the University didn't, because it was snowing. One of her previous students died while on his way to one of her classes due to snow, so she is very cautious about the weather. She even called AND emailed us to tell us it was cancelled, which i thought was a sweet gesture. Yes, she can be difficult when it comes to writing objectives and grading, but she has a good heart. =)

The word Nazi often came to mind during this semester. Especially during those times when I wasn't being told stories about Abraham Lincoln, visiting his many Kentucky homes, or hearing about how she would marry him. I am an A student and a very hard worker, but this woman has no consistency with her grading. You better hope that yours is one that she graded in front of the TV. She is rude during your many presentations, and counts off numerous points for grammatical errors that are usually grammaticality incorrect. Dr. Pierce is very opinionated and Queen of the Elementary Education department. She will hurt your feelings and make you cry many times during the semester. Her assignments will be useless and never teach you a thing, and many of them will also be quite time consuming in their uselessness. Satan, Nazi, Evil, Queen of the Underworld, whatever you choose to call her don't take her, your sanity will thank you for it!

This class is not difficult, however it does require a quite a bit of work. Mrs. Pierce is a nice woman and generally an easy grader. However, the class my seem overwhelming at times because of the amount of outside work you are required to do (I think this is with any EDU course) You are required to observe in a school for 15 hours and complete an observation binder, which is worth the majority of your grade (if you follow the guidelines she gives you then you should be able to make a 100). There is also 5 hours of community service required that you must do a presentation over (this wasn’t that big of a deal and will actually make you feel good). One more presentation is required that you do with a partner (also not a big deal) We only had two test in the class and they were not hard if you study. You do not do a whole lot during class because the majority time is spent going over what is due (however I had this as a night class once a week) I would recommend to take this class with Ms. Pierce (she might throw a lot of info @ you @ once but don’t worry you will get everything done). At first she may come off as semi hateful but she really isn't so don’t worry. If you do your work and go to class then you can get an A.

This class was a joke. Dr. Pierce can be a nice lady, but she stinks as a teacher. I learned nothing in this class about any sort of ideas that could be used in the classroom. She focuses entirely too much on elementary ed. students. As a matter of fact, I really do not recall ever hearing her discuss any sort of strategies for teaching at the secondary level. You basically teach yourself how to do the assignments, as she posts examples of EVERYTHING on blackboard. Make sure you have a cover page on everything!! She freaks out if you don't. If you happen to be an elementary ed. major, then she may work out for you. Otherwise, find someone else.

Dr. Pierce is the spawn of Satan. She never smiles, she is not a nice individual and she LOVES Abraham Lincoln. She has no organization skills !The whole time we had this class, we played with newspapers and talked about Lincoln. I had no preparation for the Praxis from this lady. What is Social Studies? If you want to know that answer ... don't take Pierce!!!! You'll never hear about it.

She drove me nuts. She gives you little to no detail on the assignments, but she kept an example in her course pack, so you basically are explaining things to yourself. She has a very dry sense of humor. I think as a person she is a nice lady, but as a teacher she stinks. She will FREAK OUT if you don't have a cover page for EVERYTHING, and also you have to give her the scoring guide for all your assignments. I learned about storytelling in this class. That's it...as for methods...I got nothing. I felt like it was a waste of my time, and she spent more time talking about her mother and her new house than focusing on making us better teachers in the future.

Mrs. Pierce is one of my favorite teachers that I have had in college. She put an example of almost all of her assignments in her course pack. So, if you have a question about one of the assignments all you have to do is look it up in your course pack and you can see exactly what it supposed to look like. Although, you could always ask Mrs. Pierce herself for she is always willing to help.
Take Mrs. Pierce she really cares about her students and is very knowledgeable in Social Studies.

Dr. Pierce was a nice teacher. The only problem I had was her grading system. It was hard to figure out if you were doing well in the class or not. She is very entertaining through her storytelling. Social Studies is her passion and this class makes it apparent.
