I have absolutley loved this class. It is a great alternative to African American Experience or Geography. It is a very time consuming class, but the information is very intresting.
You read a short chapter in the book 4-5 pages long, along with 2 readings. Then every week you have 2 short essays to write. They are mostly opinions about the articles. For instance, would you consider having botox? What do you think about our cultural ideal?
There is also 4 discussion boards and a cultural sharing project. The project is quite a bit of work. You go do four activies with a student that has been in the United States for less than a year and write a paper about it. My paper ended up being 35 pages long, but there was so much we did and I learned so much. I was really dreading this part of the class but afterwards, I was so thankful I got to do it. I learned a lot and gained a great friend.
I would highly recommend taking this class online, but make sure you have the time to dedicate to it. I am rather busy myself working 30 hours a week and a biochem major, but I didn't find it to overwhelming.
