Kenney is a nice and funny guy, so I can't say anything bad about him personally. He really is there to help out the students, which is really something that you need to do at least once a week for your photo assignments!
The reason why I withdrew from the course was because I discovered that I wanted to change majors, so this was the class that stressed me out the most during the semester.
As expected, it is extremely time-consuming and stressful if you don't really work on your photos all the time. The assignments are doable, but if you aren't a PJ major, then I would really think twice before taking this class.
As a PJ major, then I totally recommend Kenney. He is an excellent teacher and in the month or so that I was in the class, I learned TONS!
Just be prepared to work HARD, every week for the whole semester!

Mr. Kenney is probably the best teacher I’ve ever had. He's the teacher that will stay in the lab until 4 o'clock in the morning, invite you to his house to review pictures or borrow equipment, and even meet with you on the weekends if necessary. I went into basic not knowing anything about photography at all, I was nervous doing my first assignment because I didn't even know how to load film into the camera. By the end of the semester I had learned so much. Mr. Kenney treated me the same as everyone else even though I wasn't a pj major. He inspired me to change my major. I have taken his elec tech class as well. My photography skills have improved rapidly thanks to him. He is very very picky, but if he wasn't I wouldn't be able to see composition, and light like i can now. His class takes a lot of work, but its so interesting and Kenney really has a passion so it really does't ever seem like work. I truely have never met anyone willing to help more than Kenney. Meeting with him weekly is almost a must, if he can see your work ahead of time his pointers are really going to help your grade out tremendously. Don't wait until the assignment is due and you're in class to get his advice. Talk with him at least once or twice a week.

Kenney is an excellent teacher. He works with you on everything- I had so many problems this past semester and he went out of his way to make everything work for me. He tries to be funny, he imitates people and they all have the same voice, but he is quite entertaining. If you ever want to get him off topic, ask him about his kids- he's got five and one on the way. They're adorable, and you will see at least one of them at some time or another.

The man should be an inspirational speaker. If you feel down and out about what you are doing, he can talk you into better spirits.
Some of the assigments may appear impossible at first, but he helps you take it step by step and make them doable. A very valuable thing to know when you get deeper into the program!
He loves what he does and it shows. He is also a very fair grader--and he is great at giving you advice to improve without hurting feelings and making you feel bad. I know that's an issue with some people.....but he is fair and honestly wants to see you excel. HIGHLY recommended for PJ classes.

Originally this course was required for my print major, so I decided to take it with Mr. Kenney. I had little to no background in photography when I started, but right now I feel like I could teach a basic basic class. =) Mr. Kenney is a wonderful teacher. He's a demanding teacher, but he's a great one. I made a B, and I couldn't be happier. I worked really hard and learned sooo much. To be honest, this class will cost you $200+ out of your pocket and take up around 10 hours of extra time outside of class. Is it worth it? If it's required, of course. But I changed my major midway, and looking back, I would have taken it again just because I feel like I learned more in that class than a few others combined. You should definitely take it with Mr. Kenney.

Mr. Kenney is a great teacher, He really makes you think about photography and strives to make you the best photojournalist or photographer that you can be. I would have to tell you that this class is extrememly time consuming and expensive, but that how's pros are made! He is very demanding, but I wouldn't expect anything less, that's what makes him so great! You have weekly photo assignments, that if you do what the assignment sheet tells you to, then you should make a good grade. He does pay great attention to detail. I would definitely recommend Mr. Kenney!
