Although Gardler is probably the most challenging professor i have had, or will ever have, it is the class that I've learned the most from. It was difficult to shoot, print, edit, and present every week, but it got to be a routine. The final was a picture story with 7-10 pictures. That was hard for me, as I'm shy, to talk to someone I don't know, and invade their personal space, but it opened me up a lot more. I am going on with PJ, and I think Gardler was great.

gardler can be summed up in one word -> dick. gardler is an amazing photographer although you will never see his work unless you google it. he has turned me away from photography and the journalism field in general. he expects a discussion class, but will not teach you what to discuss. any comment you make he will rip you open and throw you away. he is a horrible teacher and do not recommend him for anything. theres that saying that if you cant do you teach. evidently he can do, because his teaching sucks. he is very harsh and up front and will tell you that your work sucks and you need to shoot more. he has turned me away from photojournalism. the class i was in had 15 students and out of those students were 9 journalism majors, only 2 are going on to the next class for the photo major. never take gardler. always remember -> its murder. never take gardler. trying to warn you. never take gardler.

From the multiple choice above it seems like a great class, but not really; it's too good to be true. No written final, but there is an extensive photo picture story; great, but VERY in your face for the one your photo interviewing. "go to their home" and invade their personal space and time with their family. This is for every picture. Gardler knows his stuff, but only HIS stuff. His is great, but yours suck. BAD BAD teacher, and lacks emotion. The extra credit was to get a picture published in the Herald. And other extra credit opportunities he wouldn't tell you about it, hoping that you would go anyways. This turned me away from photography and all of journalism. Hopefully this will help you. Mr. Kenney is great. Difficult but great teacher, he will encourage, not discourage. Good Luck!
