I enjoyed professor Cooksey.
She seems a little disorganized but, she always had our work returned and graded the next class.
The class is easy if you do what you're assigned. She issued a syllabus but, we strayed from it. The final was a test over one of the chapters.
Most of the learning comes from reading the book. She does not caudle you through the class. She would often go over a majority of the test the class before.

This class was definitely easy. If you're just looking for an easy A, Ms. Cooksey is the teacher for you. But most who take the class are doing so because they plan to become teachers, and she is the WORST example of what a teacher should be. She's very unorganized, doesn't follow the syllabus (or any other organizational method for that matter) that she hands out, and she announces tests the class before you're supposed to have them. She doesn't actually teach the material you'll be tested on; she skims through the chapter, telling you certain sections to read for the test and then going off on some tangent about some personal experience in her years of teaching. If you like any sort of organization at all, this class will STRESS YOU OUT. I haven't learned anything from class time; only in my field experience (15 hours required) did I learn that I truly did want to be a teacher. If you're trying to decide whether or not you want to be a teacher, I would definitely recommend taking someone different!

DO NOT TAKE HER! Sure I got an A (my gpa is a 4.0 though so that isn't represenatative of the class average), but she is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. She gives out incorrect information, laughs at students when they make comments or answer questions (and usually they are right and it is her info that is wrong) and on top of that she fails to assign critical performances that you have to do to get a grade in this class!
You will not learn anything except what not to do and you will get stressed in the process. She does not teach- if you take her at night you will always get out early because class time is wasted and nothing is learned (which makes it hard to pass the tests)
Many peopel fail because they do not study the book hardcore which you have to do because she does not give notes- she just talks about her opinions. Do not take her!

Professor Cooksey is a very knowledgeable lady, but she doesn't know how to teach what she knows to her students. She is very disorganized and has told us the same stories over and over. Her tests are sometimes confusing, but mostly easy. She will answer any questions you have, if she knows the answer, and if you take it at night you will always get out early. However, I do not feel like I benefitted from this class. If I would have taken a different professor I think I might have learned something. Cooksey is too scatterbrained for me.

As long as you stay on top of things in this class you will do fine. There is a lot of work, but Dr. Cooksey is such a good teacher and does not give you any more work than what is required. She is very helpful and truly loves her students. I would definitely recommend taking her for this course.

Dr. Cooksey is one of the greatest ladies I have ever met. She is truly the most genuine, sincere, lovely ladies ever. Although, she is a little disorganized and honestly, you don't learn a lot in here, she does try to help you with whatever you need. I learned more grammar in this class in 15 minutes than in my whole educational career. If you need help with anything at all, just tell her and she will do her best to teach it to you. She is very very intelligent and she really waits to see what you want or need to learn before she initiates anything. I'm really g oing to miss seeing Dr. Cooksey every week.

I'm split on Dr. Cooksey...
Reasons Why She Should Get a Green Face: Always lets class out early (30-45min early), Cancels Class a Lot, Easy Tests, Easy Grader, VERY nice lady
Reasons Why She Should Get a Red Face: Always late to class, very disorganized, never really teaches anything, gives very confusing/contradicting instructions
So the verdict is...
If you want an easy class, Cooksey is your gal. If you want to actually learn something, pick somebody else so you don't feel like you will never be able to recover that time you wasted sitting in her class (when she actually held class)

This whole class consists of making a sample of work to show future employers. The field experience for this course if very enlightening. This class takes a lot of work but class time is used for discussion and planning. Dr. Cooksey is hilarious in an off-beat sort of way. I recommend this class because it is helpful but not unreasonably difficult.

There are several papers due in this class, but they were fairly short and graded very easily. Mrs. Cooksey frequently ended class early. We had to give one presentation over a specified topic in education. She let us make up our own questions for the last three exams (including the final.) All of our tests were 25 question multiple choice tests. Take this professor!

I love Dr. Cooksey, but I have to say this course was bad for the exact oposite reason that Kacer is bad. It was really easy and I didn't learn a thing. However, it was good to take with Kacer's class because while it was a lot of work as well, Dr. Cooksey did explain things to us that we did not understand in Kacers class.

Dr. Cooksey provides an unbelieveable contrast to Dr. Kacer. Cooksey actually understands her students and what teaching in the modern classroom is like. She lets you turn in assignments, then gives them back to you with the option to resubmit them for a better grade. Perhaps my view of her is slanted because I am taking Kacer at the same time, but Cooksey is one of, if not the best professor I have ever had at Western.

There are no exams in this course, but that doesn't mean it's easy. The class consists of field work, lesson plans, and case studies. There's a lot of work, but Ms. Cooksey will help you improve, and she grades fairly. Your portfolio will end up being well over 100 pages, but you can get it done if you don't procrastinate. Don't take this class if you know you're going to have a hard semester, because it takes up a lot of your time. However, Ms. Cooksey has a great personality, and I enjoyed the class in spite of the work

This course was very interesting. Ms. Cooksey is very knowledgeable about the subject of diversity. Though she was working on her doctorate she would make the time to talk to you about anything that you needed. There are NO EXAMS in this course. There is too much more important work with lesson plans and useful information to worry with tests. The exit exhibition is a lenghty portfolio that meets the guidelines of the Kentucky New Teacher Standards. If you are not dedicated and determined I would suggest you not teach... in other words don't take this course unless you can handle work. It may seem to be busy work, but it will be a true asset in your teaching career. Not all SEC teachers are terrible... This one definately is not horrible. Wonderful job, Ms. Cooksey. Hope that your doctorate comes soon.
