He expects you to know art no matter who you are. So study, study, study! Or take my advice and take Jones or someone else that gets better reviews than him. His quizzes and test are extremely in depth with lots of material. This class kicked over half of my class's butts.

DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He makes the class way more difficult then they need to be. This is a gen ed class and he doesn't realize that everyone in his class is not an art major. There are tons of notes and he expects you to retain a ridiculous amount of information.

"Easy A?" Think again. Though Art 100 seems like it should be an easy class, this guy is a bit over the top.
I'm not one to rip a professor a new one in an evaluation...but the notes were insane, exams hard, and overall I was not satisfied.
Art 100 shouldn't be so much of a pain in the butt - take someone else.
(And don't buy that expensive textbook. All of his questions come from his lectures and I lost a lot of money on that book.)

He isn't organized at all. The powerpoints usually don't make any sense because he jumps around too much. You have 4 exams and a final. He will usually give you a study guide but don't count on it for every test. He gives some extra credit opportunities. There are about 5-10 videos you will watch and they are very boring but if you stay the entire time he might give extra credit if a lot of people walk out. I would reccomend taking someone else if you actually want to learn something.

Brent Oglesbee is a pretty good teacher. If your not an art major then it can be very boring but he makes it ok. You ususally take notes everyday but its nothing major and everything you take down will be on the test. The tests are usually mutiple choice on scantron and are pretty easy if you just study your notes..Class also usually lets out earlier than the scheduled time so that makes it better. I would advise taking him because hes a pretty nice guy and teacher

If you want to be stressed, annoyed, and constantly fail quizzes in this class...then take him. He makes art 100 SO much harder than it should be. I studied for every single quiz, along with a lot of my other friends in this class and did awful on every single one. His quizzes aren't just studying the notes, it's applying the notes to pieces of art that we know nothing about. I'm pretty sure he thinks everyone in the class is an art major. If you have to take him, then go for it...but you'll probably regret it. You'll also need to do every single extra credit opportunity he offers if you are wanting to do the least bit well.

Brent is a really nice guy, funny too, but his grading criteria is very severe. A 'B' in his class would be an 'A' by any other teacher's standards. He expects a ton from students, even though this is an entry-level foundations art class. The projects are interesting and challenging, and he gives you ample opportunity to redo them if you aren't happy with your grade, as long as you made a 'C' or higher. To my knowledge, he is the only professor who teachers 3-D, so expect to have grade difficulties. However, to his advantage, he will work with you and tell you exactly what needs to be changed about your projects and help you in any way he can.

this class is totally ridiculous! I HATED it...I thought I would like it considering I am an art person but Oglesbee totally ruined it for me. He doesnt know what he's talkin about and gives incorrect names on paintings! He doenst know how to teach and really just confuses the crap out of you. Hes tests are rediculous too. Be prepared for the worst class you have ever takin if you take it with him.

Professor Oglesbee tries really hard to give you tons or extra credit points. His class is a lot of memorization. Some of his lectures are interesting, but if they aren't interesting then they are really boring. I didn't buy the text book and I'm glad I didn't waste my money. However on 2 seperate tests there have been 2 questions pretaining to the book that I didn't know. Its a really easy class. He can be a little sarcastic when you ask for help but he really means well. You do have to work a little but its not a stressful class. And most of the people who sat around me received A's and B's in his class.

Mr. Oglesbee can be a jackass at times. He doens't have a very good sense of humor and he makes a 100 level class more difficult than it should be. The easiest parts of his tests are slide identification, but the way he words questions can make the test a little hard. Overall, this class isn't too bad, it's just not one you look forward to attending. He also made us write a 3 page, single-spaced paper about a piece of artwork we'd only seen for a matter of mins. This class can be difficult if you don't put some effort into it, I strongly recommend another teacher.

After taking this course, i really didnt appreciate art at all. Brent Oglesbee is a broke Chris Elliot, and in no way at all close to his humor. He doesnt like anyone and he thinks he is better than everybody in the room. The class is easy but it being so gay that it makes the class hard. I would not recommend this class to my worst enemy.

If you have insomnia, take this course!!! This professor's lectures are far more effective than sleeping pills! The class is quite easy for the most part. However, he takes attendance every day in a class of 65. He also goes crazy when it comes time for the final and tends to think that we are art majors and actually care about this crap. AND, he swears in class and shows nudey paintings that aren't even on the tests. He also omits classic works that should be common knowledge and students can get out of a collegiate art class without knowing them! Just say NO to his class!

His notes are pretty much what is on the tests and the tests are easy. There is very little homework that may take 20 minutes at the most to complete. Extra credit is given often to bring up your grade.

I like Mr. Olgesbee as a person, but I DO NOT recommend his class, b/c it is extremely boring. All you do is take notes and look at slides all period while he talks in a monotone voice. On the tests you have to explain paintings in complete detail or you don't get any credit at all. Also, you are bombarded by boring facts and when it comes project time, if it's not a certain way he won't give you any points at all, despite your hard effort.

This class was interesting, but certainly not easy. It hard to know what Mr Oglesbee expects out of a project. Many of the projects have strict stipulations and guideliunes, which makes the project much harder. Also, the grading is very hard - just getting a B on a project requires lots of time and effort - Sometimes the difference between a B project and an A project is questionable. If you have a busy schedule already, this is not a good class to take.

Brent is a tough teacher, but he doesn't lord over you, he lets you figure things out for yourself. He expects students to take sculpture seriously and put in alot of time outside of class. It's not a class where projects can be fudged. He grades hard but fair.

Oglesbee is a little intimidating at first, but he is actually a very well-spoken and intelligent man with a good sense of humor. He tells you what to expect on the tests, which are easy if you just read the assigned chapters. You will look at slides in class, but you're not expected to memorize a lot of paintings. He mostly sticks to what's in the book in his lectures, but he will often depart to give his own thoughts, which are interesting. He really wants you to learn the material, and tries to liven it up sometimes with videos, music, and other activities (He brought us candy one day). He assigns short projects (You will actually have to make some art and do some critiques), but they are not hard and are few (three or four). There are lots of opportunities for extra credit. Art 100 is a good class to take, and Oglesbee is a safe bet and a wise choice.

This guy assumes his students know what he's talking about when most of them in my class didn't. There are a lot of notes to be taken in this class and the tests are hard. On the final, there was information that the students needed to know that was only mentioned once in the class and was not later discussed. The teacher is a bit of a snob and does NOT teach well. Do not take him unless you enjoy getting bad grades.
