Ms. Boren is a very friendly instructor who quickly puts you at ease. She beams at you when you walk through the door and is always glad to see you. She is very lenient and probably gives you grades you don't quite deserve (to your benefit). We were a little frustrated this semester because we didn't get grades back on any of our exams and speeches until the night before the final; but we pretty well knew how we were doing. She's got blackboard going now, so the grades might not be an issue in the future. She grades very generously on the exams as long as you put effort into your essay questions. She's big on essays. Our final was open book, but the problems were application problems-- ten essay questions. Lots and lots and lots of writing.

Prof. Boren is one of the nicest professors I have had. She is very understanding and works with your schedule. I would recommend taking her class. Our particular class was very laid-back; it was not difficult to speak in front of this class. There are two exams, including the final. Prof. Boren gives you the book page number and the sentence that you need to study. As long as you prepare using her guide, you should ace the exams. As far as public speaking, you do an interview, a group discussion, and two presenations (informative and persuasive). According to her, the class graded each other much harder than she did. She is fairly lenient about when you actually give your final two presentations. She understands that most students have a lot of assignments in their other classes and pretty much devotes the final four weeks of class to these two presentations. Her primary employment is in the community and she is a good contact to have for the future.
