I was scared when I saw all of the bad reviews for this teacher and was hesitant of signing up for it. I actually liked the class and the teacher. It was a peice of cake class; just write down what he says, study that and the selected examples, come to class and get the assignments and go to the concerts. He doesn't expect that much out of you regardless of what others say. 95% of my class shouldn't even be in college; they joked and laughed about failing these tests (Which are straight from his lecture, which is straight from the book) and they never came to class and never tried. Winner even canceled like 4-5 days throughout the whole semester which was awesome, plus, you get out early just about every single day. Just put in a little effort even thought it is a "required course" and you can pull an A or B. (He also puts 2 or 3 easy topic of the week extra credit questions on the tests...you get to drop one too! I'm not even taking the final!)

This class is bogus. Not sure why it is required. I had an appreciation for music before this class, and I still do. I just regret being forced to tolerate Mr. Winner's dry humor and excessive enthusiasm. He obviously loves what he teaches, but he expects his students to love it just as much. Some due, don't then again, classical music just isn't some kids' cup of tea. Attendance is mandatory, but that's because he randomly hands out his assignments, and if you aren't there to get it, then you can't turn it in. His lectures are basically read from the book, literally, so you can follow along, or do what I did, and read ahead while he is rambling on. The book is required, and you'll do better on the tests if you read instead of listening to him talk, but you could still get a B if all you do is listen to the lectures. However, the listening pieces can kill you on the test. Just listen to them the night before, and keep in mind what Mr. Winner comments about certain sections, because those are usually the ones he plays, and you'll do fine.
Like I said, this class is bogus, but not hard at all.

Just come to class, the course is really not that hard. Attendance is not part of your grade, but he gives out homework which is 20% of your grade, so go to class. The test are not that hard, just take notes in class and you'll do fine. I think he is a really nice guy and cool professor, I would recommend taking him. Also he drops the lowest test grade, so do good on all the test and skip out on the final, which is only half cumulative.

This was one of the worst professors that I have had at WKU. He is not helpful at all and doesn't want to work with students. He is a very closed minded individual. He gave us stupid assignments which were worth 100 points but he did not remind us about them. A lot of people did very poorly in his class. He is also very rude but he missed his own first day of class claming that his daughter was sick. DO NOT TAKE HIM HE IS AWFUL!!!! he thinks he knows everything and puts students down.

This class is sooo easy. Mr. Winner is easy to please if you just learn his moods because sometimes he's in a good mood and you can say about anything but somedays he's in a crabby mood and you need to just listen. I never read the book, never studied, and skipped class alot. I didn't have to take the final because I would have a B either way. The only thing about this class is when you skip on a turn in or pick up for homework day, then you miss it and it's a zero. That's how he gets you to come to class. If I would have came to class more I would have had an A and still not had to take the final. Take him, it's easy (but go to class most of the time LOL).

Going above and beyond what a 100 level, first semester (freshman), should ever be burdened with. Mr. Winner takes this class like it was a class for your masters degree. If you read the book over and over, word for word, and listen to the assigned music (sometimes up to 20 different sections of 20 different songs) over and over, you will do good on the tests. The material covered in class is kind of similar to that on the test, but you must read to pass it. Worst class in my college career so far, i recommend to take theater appreciation, its a much much easier class.
PS. he rides a harley.

This is a relative easy course. As long as you take notes in class, read the book, and listen carefully to the music selections, you'll do fine. It's really not that difficult. The final isn't bad either. There is plenty of extra credit opportunites and Mr. Winner is a great guy!! He was always very fair when it came to tests and things. I mean, he was kinda boring at times, but I don't know if it was him or the subject. Overall, it's a great class and Mr. Winner was a great teacher. If you don't make a good grade, it's your fault, not his.

This class was easy! Basically, if you go to class, take notes, and study the musical compositions, you'll pass with an A or B. Mr. Winner teaches what you need to know to pass and you can tell he likes what he teaches. If you are wondering whether or not to take this class, take a few notes a day, study the music, and it'll be over before you know it.

Mr. Winner is a very layed back teacher. He does want his students to learn, he teaches how to study music since it isn't with the eyes like most subjects. Even though it is a low level gen ed class he does teach it as if it is important. I enjoyed his class a lot.

for a typical 100 level course, you would think a teacher would not teach you 300 and 400 level information. this teacher is horrible!! he treated this class like it was the most important class this campus had. it was all upper level material and u could forget trying to understand the material! avoid this man at all costs!!!

The tests were easy if you read every page of every chapter, if not it could be difficult. He does give study guides. He has a good personality.

This guy is a jerk. He gives the class a couple of days to do an 8 pg research paper for a final and never tells the class when he's not going to be there. I mean I clearly enjoy waking up at 7:30 and going to class only to see a "class canceled" sign on the door or even better getting there and having to wait 15 minutes only to realize he's not going to show up. The class is very boring and if I wanted to make a C in a class that I had to study my butt off for, I would have takin Anatomy or Physics, not this lame Music class. I hope he sees this and gets pissed cause he's surely the worst teacher I've had so far in my three years of college.

When I think of Andrew Winner and music appreciation I think about hell, because thats what taking his class felt like. This guys mission is to make music appreciation the hardest class on campus. He really eats this music stuff up, I mean its just music, Who really cares. His tests and reveiws are so non relevent to the material he covered in class its not even funny. This guy is awfull do not take him. Especially if you do not want a 8 page single spaced paper for your final.

If you are taking Music Apprec. DO NOT take this guy! For one thing, he makes the class as hard as possible and expects you to memorize the book. He will give you a hand out as a review for the test but won't go over it with you. Two days before our 2nd test in class, he tells to read 200 pages in the book as the review for the test!! Now how is anyone going to have time to read that much in that short amount of time out of a text book!! I just reviewed the notes like crazy and settled for a C. And for the final he goes and assigns us an 8 page research paper due in 5 days!! And tells us the reason he gave us a paper as a final is to give us more time to study for other classes!! Hello, how lame is this guy, I spent way more time getting the paper done then I would have spent to study for a multiple choice test!! He pretty much made everyones finals week hell! Honestly I could go on forever about this bozo but I think I'll shut up now.

This guy flat out sucks. He is very hard for his first semester in teaching. He gives too much information for his test. His listening exams are the worst because he over kills it by making you learn over 20 songs then asks you various questions with each one. I got a C but this class really is tough. And he also wears green shirts every day. Do not take it its too boring and the class average on tests are like 62.

This class was so horrid, I had to drop it. He sort of forgot that no one in the class were Music Majors, thus we didn't really care. He tried so hard to make it difficult and took it all a little too serious for a lowsy gen-ed class. Don't take him.
