Additional Comments
Dr. Senters is a teacher that I would personally recommend to everyone, that is if they are will to do the work and work for the grade that they receive. She gets VERY excited when she is on a roll talking about History. You are expected to do the reading assignments in the book because we have discussion days. On those days you have an individual portion, this is where you have to actually use your brain, and have critical thinking skills. You basically have to display all of your knowledge on that piece of paper and you are timed. Then afterwards, you have a group portion of the assignment. You are different questions and everyone in the group had to give their option to the questions. Here is an example of an individual question- How seriously had the Cherokees attempted to adopted white "civilization"? Example, citing specific examples. Was assimilation (to become similar; in this case to become similar to those of white European descent) a realistic alternative to removal? Explain. Here is an example of a group question- What was the purpose of the policy adopted by the US government toward the Cherokees? Can the 1835 treaty providing for removal be viewed as an example of fraud duplicity by the US government? Explain. How would you characterize the implementation of the removal policy? What happened on the "Trail of Tears"? Is this an example of genocide? Is it comparable to the Holocaust? Justify your answer. Her essays are something that one should NOT take lightly, they are a high portion of your grade. The way that you study should be taken into consideration because you should study for her tests, longer than just a few minutes, a couple of hours is more like it. She takes attendance every time you met. If you miss no more than 2 class periods, you are given 1 point added to your final grade (89+1=90 for final). If you have perfect attendance, you have 2 points added to your final grade. She is a professor who expects full respect in her classroom, but she is really fun and is quite a joker. I encourage you to take one/any of Dr. Senters' classes.
