Additional Comments |
Dale is the epitome of everything bad in academia. I don't even know where to begin.
First, he makes his syllabus intentionally vague. In his words, "I want students to come to my office hours to ask me about assignments." Most students don't have the free time to just meander in to his office hours and ask him to explain literally every assignment, and so he thinks they are uncommitted to his class.
Second, he doesn't give clear grades. Again, in his words, "I don't get the point of grades." In other words, it's anyone's guess what your final grade will be. I think it depends on what mood he's in when he is assigning them.
Finally, he is overly critical and not helpful in feedback. He'll say things like "this is such boring work" or "I thought your piece was written very badly" but won't offer any specific suggestions of how to improve it.
Look, maybe you can find a way to handle Dale. But I hate him with every fiber of my being, and chances are you will too if you take him.
