Professor Lienesch is a great professor. I took him for Bio 122 and was ecstatic when I saw he was teaching 224. He explains things very well and is easy to understand. He posts all powerpoints online before each unit so you can have them printed off to take notes.
Attendance isn't required for this class, but he does leave A LOT of blanks within the powerpoints that way the students who don't come to class have missing information.
If you attend class and study throughout the semester rather than cramming, you can get an A easy.

Dr. Lienesch is a great professor and he really cares about his students progressing and improving. His lecture notes are on blackboard but he leaves information off so you must go to class to get the information. Please attend and don't let a friend take the notes because there are always one ore two questions on the exams that can only be answered from attending the lecture. He drops the lowest exam grade which was very helpful. YOU MUST MAKE NOTECARDS to pass this class.

Dr. Lienesch was one of the most un-helpful professors I've ever delt with. I emailed him, called him, even stopped by his office and left messages because he wasnt there and he would never even think of replying to me. He basically read over the notes in class. His exams were the hardest exams I've ever taken. All of the multiple choice answers are so confusing. He doesn't give extra credit. There are only exams in his class, no homework grades or quiz grades which sucks! I would not recommend this class to anyone! It was horrible! I now have to re-take it in order to TRY and get the F off of my transcript. The lab wasn't that great either. I would recommend that anyone interested wait and see if someone else teaches it or maybe just take a different Bio course.

Dr. Lienesch seems like a nice guy, and it genuinely interested in what he teaches. However, I agree with almost every other review of him in saying that his class is pretty boring. All notes come from the powerpoints and a few random facts that he throws out there (which are sometimes on the test). He usually puts one or two extra credit questions on each test, and the tests really aren't that bad if you go to class and pay attention.
Overall, I wouldn't take him again unless I had to, but this class wasn't terrible.

Okay so these labs are usually taught my graduate students but either way its the same exams, etc. There is a midterm and a final: both are easy and feature labeling, identification and multiple choice. The exams are 50 multiple choice questions and then a 50 question practical. Every class meet you have a 10 question quiz; you get to drop the lowest two so its an ease. Basically the class is 70% dissection and 30% general laboratory. Its very easy overall, just pick up a scalpel and go to work. Overall: A+ class

Okay so here is the basis of the class: if your are a biology major and in honors, you will be fine. This course consists of four 50 questions tests and a cumulative final. The questions are t/f with some multiple choice (he uses things like all of these, none of these). Outside of exams you have to attend three seminars and write up a few paragraphs about each (easy). For bonus you can attend two field trips which are very fun. The textbook....well yes it says "required" but here is the deal...you never use it. He gives you all the notes which are posted on blackboard..these notes include diagrams. So he never asks you to bring it or open it; really its a resource. His teaching style is strictly power point lecture which is very boring. You also write a paper which the first draft is worth 80 points then you re write it and make corrections for a extra 20. Overall: A- teacher and A class.

Dr. Lienesch is a nice guy, but not the most efficient instructor. His tests are extremely difficult. His multiple choice questions are worded very tricky and he frequently uses "none of the above" as the correct answer. While he puts the notes on Blackboard, attendance to class is mandatory in my opinion. If you go to class you are also better prepared for the lab. Notecard studying is also out the window---rewriting your notes is the best study option.

He is the most boring man on the face of the planet. He is so monotone and goes on and on about seemingly insignificant data. Study the powerpoints for the test, MEMORIZE all the little details because he loves to pull stuff that is unimportant. He has a hard time with making tests, his questions are often confusing and VERY poorly worded. He loves, "all of the above," or "none of the above" answers. If you have to take him, do so, but bring coffee because this class will put you to sleep. There are very few points, tests and final only, so you must preform well on each test.

Dr. Lienesch is a nice guy and willing to help you when you need it. He is a little scatter brained at times and therefore is all over the place when explaining things. For example, he has just explained a concept and has moved on to the next concept when something reminds him he forgot something in the previous concept so he will revert back to it while in the middle of the new concept. The number one complaint I have is that in lab you have to identify the fish specimens which are in perservatives. When you put fish in this they lose their color and a lot of the defining markings. It is really hard to distinguish between some fish because of this. There is also a research paper which is due around the end of the semester. He does grade fair on that. He will let you turn in one copy of your paper and it will be worth 80 points. He makes corrections and lets you fix them and turn it back in and it will be worth 20 points then. The tests are essay. You have to write in complete sentences. No listing, drawings, etc. but take good notes and study powerpoints you should be fine.

Dr. Lienesch is a great guy, and he really is interested and passionate about his subject. The only bad thing is this class is completely boring! He reads off of the powerpoint slides (which are available online), and that is the main basis of the class. He requires a few field trips that will take up a couple of your Saturdays, but they actually aren't bad at all. There is one paper you have to do in the class, and the tests are multiple choice.
If you pay attention and you enjoy the subject material, you will do fine. The nice thing is that he offers a couple of bonus points on every test, and you get to drop your lowest test score (out of four). Just study a bit ahead of time, and really memorize all the phyla! And bring some coffee to class too, because this will probably put you to sleep!

Dr. Lienesch made this class a lot harder than it should have been. The material requires a lot of memorization (Phlya and Classes), and he made it nearly impossible by being completely unorganized. The material seemed scattered and was presented in random order. His tests were ridiculous as well, especially the true/false. The questions were intentionally tricky, and some seemed like there was no (or more than one) right answer. Furthermore, Dr. Lienesch CANNOT spell. He misspells words that are in his field of study like thoracic and pancreas. And don't even bother asking him a question because I assure you, he will not know the answer. If it's not on the power point presentation right in front of him, he won't know it. I don't recommend this professor to anyone.

Dr. Lienesch does a good job of explaining things and posts all of the notes online so you can just print them off and bring em to class. There are just a few slides here and there you need to write something extra down for but that doesn't happent too often. Just listen to what he says, he breaks down the material so it's easy to understand. I was VERY hesitant about taking this class based on the other reviews but it wasn't bad at all. Honestly I thought 120 was harder material than this. Most people complained about the tests because they thought they were going to be very difficult, but, those were the people who said "Sweet, the notes are online? I dont have to come to class!" and they just showed up on test days. It hurt them in the end.

Take Dr. Lienesch. He's such a great teacher. The class is really interesting and you can tell he really enjoys teaching it. I've had him for two different courses and enjoyed both. He lectures from powerpoints so all you have to do is print them off a computer. Take those to class and jot a few notes when he lectures. You should be alright if you happen to miss a class or two. He makes his tests from the powerpoints so just study those and you'll do just fine :)

I think that this lab is more difficult than the class. Anything in the lab is "fair game" to Dr. Lienesch. However, I am not going to complain about his teaching method because he really is helpful and a very nice guy. The midterm is more diffucult than the final. It just seems like there is so much to cover and so much to learn. However, I had a blast in the class doing the disections and things of that sort. There were two different lab teachers and from what I heard, the other guy was easier...still, Dr. Lienesch challanged me and I am pround of my B. I didnt study as much as I should have and I can only blame myself. No fault on Dr. Lienesch, he is great. If you study hard for every quiz and try you will do fine.

Many people thought that this class was difficult, but as long as you study, stay focused, and give it yor best it will be easy to achieve the grade you want. His tests come directly from the powerpoint. And he gives you bonus/extra credit on all of the exams. He also drops the lowest one. The final is cumulative, but not as detatiled as the tests. The lab is a LOT tougher than the lecture. Quizzes are given every class, each is worth 10 points. He drops one quiz at the end of the semester. There are 10 questions, half from the lab you cover that day and half from the lab you did last week. The questions are tough, so be sure to study. There are two tests, one at Midterm and the other at the end of the semester. These tests are TOUGH and include qualitative material plus a practicle. Not many people make A's in the class, don't worry though it's only one credit hour.

I enjoyed this class. It's a very good honors course. The tests and notes are the same as the regular section, but there are out of class activities required. You have to go on two field trips, attend 3 Biology seminars, read the NYTimes Science section every week, and write a scientific paper dealing with osmoregulation of a hermit crab. Writing the scientific paper was very benificial and I enjoyed the field trips and seminars. The tests are really easy, so don't worry about that. He lets you drop one test grade out of four. The notes are powerpoint and online before he gives them. Take Leinesch and have fun.

Dr. Lienesch is a really nice teacher. He really enjoys this stuff, and gets a little over-excited about it sometimes. He is fair, though. His tests are straight out of his notes, so the book is somewhat helpful, but not necessary. If you do not go to class, you will NOT do well, but if you go to class, you will easily get an A or B. His tests are mostly just multiple choice and short answer, so it is pretty easy. He also offers extra credit occassionally on the tests, but doesn't tell you about it in advance, so do your best. I have had him for 2 classes now, and would definitely take him again.

Dr. Lienesch...has been called boring...I didn't think so since my biology teacher in high school was much worse, but I will say there were some days that I wished he would cut class early. Other than test days, expect to stay for the entire class.
Notes are PowerPoint slides, posted on the bioweb site, which may be good or bad depending on your attention span. Mine is short, but I still came out with the A. I went to class everyday, but it's not required.
You need to study for the tests, but questions are usually fairly general and give a good idea of what you actually know. Very few questions require you to know specific minute details. Every test has true/false, multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, essay (choose 1 out of 2), and bonus questions.
Final is comprehensive and required, well, sort of. I got out of it based on my grades from previous tests. Isn't that a goal to shoot for?
Study if you want to have any chance of getting out of the final or if you want to be above average. No one told you college would be easy, and if they did, they weren't a science major...

This lab has more notes than I expected form a lab course, but the dissecetions are neat. He is a fair teacher, and will curve if necessary. He walks you thru the dissections somewhat, but you need to ask questions or you won't know exactly what is what. There are 2 tests, covering each half of the course. They involve identifying parts on the dissections, and then fill in the blank, etc. There are also 10 point quizzes each week. I would highly recommend buying the photographic atlas to accompany this course. It has detailed pictures of most of the critters you will dissect and will help tremendously in identifying the parts. Also, DO NOT miss lab, unless there is an EMERGENCY, it is hard to make up, especially if you have to go to another instructor.

There are only 4 exams in the class plus a final so there are not a lot of points available. The class is not difficult, just a lot of memorization. Dr. Lienesch is kind of boring, and his lectures are done entirely by power-point, but you can print them out ahead of time so you aren't writing the whole time. If you have an A at the end of the semester, you don't have to take the final. Again, it's NOT hard, just a lot of information. I am taking him again for Zoo, and he is very fair.

Dr. Lienesch's Honors Biology 120 course was not difficult. His tests, on the other hand, were quite lengthy and detailed. He had 2 essays on every test that no one on this earth could get more than 6 or 7 of the possible 10 points on. All of his notes are on powerpoint and offered on the web, so almost no note taking is required of you...that is a serious plus!!! His final IS CUMULATIVE OF THE ENTIRE SEMESTER!! (But it's not that bad.) Don't be wary of this course because it bears the title "honors", because it is the easiest class I had last semester. With moderate studying, this course is an EASY A.

This professor, by far, is the most boring professor ever. First off, he talks like Christopher Walken... very annoying. Secondly, he reads power point presentations... not teach. His exams are the most cruel exams known to man. On the first exam, 8 people made A's, 3 people made B's, 8 people made C's, 28 people made D's, and 31 people made F's. If there are any people curious about this guy, please know that he is the WORST professor on campus. Avoid him at all costs. Also, keep away from him in lab. He keeps you for the full time and if you leave during any part of lab, you get a 0 for the day because your quiz is thrown in the trash. There was a student who got sick in my lab class and needed to leave. He got a 0 on his quiz because he got sick. Not very fair. Trust me, if you study REEEEALLY hard, chances are, you might get no higher than a C. Please take someone, ANYONE, else. My GPA has is sure to take a nosedive. Thanks Lienesch.
