Additional Comments |
I guess Dr. Yambor has softened up a bit since most of the previous reviews were posted. Her class is very laid back and she tells a lot of entertaining stories.
There are three non-cumulative quizzes over the course of the semester. Quizzes come directly from the notes, which are in PowerPoint form and available on Blackboard. She puts a lot of emphasis on reading the textbooks but rarely includes book-specific information on quizzes. I never read anything after the first quiz.
You have to write a Media Reflection Exercise, which consists of watching a movie and writing five pages about your thoughts on it. She assigned this to us during a week when she cancelled class, so it wasn't bad.
The worst part of the class is the two group projects. One of them involves an hour-long presentation and requires each group member to write a five-page paper, while the other requires a 10-minute presentation with a 20-page paper (1 paper per group). I had awesome group members, but your experience in this class could easily be ruined if you end up with crappy group members.
She grades papers pretty leniently with the exception of the 20-page group paper, in which she counts off for each typo and grammatical error.
There is a good chance you will enjoy this class. It's not the easiest, but it is definitely manageable.
