Additional Comments |
Dr. Marjorie Yambor has a reputation for being a ball-busting, goth-toting professor who has no regards to your well-being, but really she's an incredible professor. I would say as a first-time student of hers that you shouldnt worry about her being hard or strict or any of that matter, because she's only that way if you dont come to class or dont study for her exams. I would say it would be a good idea to always show up for her class ON TIME. It would also be a good thing to take notes (she types them up on an overhead so that makes it easy, but also write down some things she says when she doesnt type them out) and to at least each chapter once to get an idea of what's being discussed. Her tests can seem tricky (I dont think I ever made an A on one of her exams) but as long as you read your notes (not just skim them through) and read the chapter at least once you'll get by. Her assignments are once a month, where you do a "collaborative carnival" which is a topic picked by the class to discuss in smaller groups by going to the library and copying an article or piece of text from a book about whatever topic you chose for that month. DO NOT PRINT FROM THE INTERNET! She will give you ZERO POINTS if you do. Yambor is not someone you can fool over too well, so I suggest abide by her rules in the syllabus to maintain a decent grade. Her classes really arent that boring, because by the end of the semester you are pretty much coming to class to discuss whatever is happening in the media. A good idea would be to speak up and say what's on your mind because she is a professor who likes it when students shoot off their mouths or argue someone's opinion...she will probably even praise you for saying something. She may appear tough and at times bizarre (her attire can be questionable) but she really is someone who knows her stuff and thinks the world of media and broadcasting is really cool stuff that everyone should get in on. You'll either love her or hate her, but take her just once and then decide what you think of Dr. Yambor.
