Very boring teacher. Unattractive and dull. Too bad there are no hot teachers around anymore. Don't take her . She does a poor job of keeping your interest.

This is not a difficult course, but is really time consuming. I had this class on MW for 2 hours. On Mondays we were in the classroom. We always stayed the whole two hours, some days the time went by quicker than others. Mrs. Zippay usually does a read aloud each class meeting over a children's book that she feels is a quality book. I enjoy this and it usually takes up about 30 minutes of class. You don't really have to take notes in class, but it is important to print out the power points she puts online before going to class. Mrs. Zippay is very organized and you know what is due on what day at the beginning of the semester. She does not really remind you of when things are do so it is important to keep up with these things on your own. On Wednesdays we go as a class to do our field experience, therefore, we don't meet in the classroom on these days. Each Monday lesson plans from the follow week of field experience are due. Mrs. Zippay tells you up front what she expects of you and if you follow and do what she says you will be just fine. There is only a midterm and a final in this class and they are both multiple choice. Overall, I would recommend this class to anyone who plans to take LTCY 420.

This class is not hard but there is a lot of work to do outside of class. Pretty much every class period you have something to turn in. At the beginning of the semester Mrs. Zippay tells you everything that will be due over the semester and when it is due. This is very helpful, however, if you do not look at your course calendar frequently, you might not know something is due, as she does not always tell you the day before in class. Field experience is required in this class, but it is a lot of fun. Overall, I really enjoyed this class. I would recommend Mrs. Zippay to anyone who needs this class. She reads a children's book to you almost each class period, and while she usually keeps you the whole time, if you ask questions and make discussion in class it is not boring. She cares about her students and loves what she does. I highly recommend her.

This class was a fun class but there is a ton of work you will have to complete. There was usually something due every class period. A lot of little assignments, but they add up. Zippay is a good teacher. Just do your work and you'll be fine.

She has been my best professor yet! You do have to be self disciplined to do well in this class, but she tells you up front everything she expects out of you and your assignments. She provides a course calendar and syllabus that is very helpful!
I would highly recommend her!

Mrs. Zippay is one of the BEST professors I have had at Western. She is passionate about teaching reading and provides numerous examples that are pratical for the classroom. She shares quality children literature and demonstrates activities to do with the literature. If you have any questions about assignments, ask her...she is understanding and very helpful! This course requires a lot of work, but Mrs. Zippay makes it enjoyable. I highly recommend Mrs. Zippay for this course!

I took this class online and it was a lot of work. You have discussion boards due every week along with your observation portfolio entries. You must have lots of self discipline in order to do well in this class.

Ms. Zippay is a great instructor! She is very helpful and I took her in her first year of teaching at Western and felt she did a wonderful job! While taking any literacy class involves a lot of work, I never felt stressed by it or felt it too much. She was actively helpful and offered great constructive criticism for all of the assignments!
