Additional Comments
I'm halfway thru Dr. Janson's class. I'm enjoying it. Janson is funny...he makes references to Guns'n'Roses, the Muppets (their remake of the Jan van Eyck painting "The Marriage of Giovanni Arnolfini"), and others.
The class is okay...like any Survey class at SCAD, it's 2.5 hours in a room filled with slides and darkness and warmth...nuff said. Janson is a feisty man who bounces around and loves questions. Class participation is a MUST in this class...if you're shy and reserved and never ask questions, you might fail the "Class participation" grade. His tests are simple to do, but easy to underestimate. You do not need to know dates, but periods (Baroque, Italian Baroque, Spanish Baroque) and characteristics of them...this is handy to know for the "surprise" slides during the exam. These are pictures which are not in the text, and haven't been shown in class. You must identify the period from which they came. Then there are usually 2 essay questions, and 10 multiple choice.
I recommend this class to EVERYONE. Take Janson, he's a treat.
