Additional Comments
More than a year ago when I took Dr. Lisa Gaetje for this very same course---I like many others in her class were on the verge of a mental breakdown and a blotch on our permanent transcripts which by the transfer university's standards would not be favorable. Up until I took this course again I was having recurring nightmares and in horrid, terrifying detail. After all that unpleasantness went away I decided what would be the harm in repeating? With all fears done away with I enrolled in Prof. Langie's course. My first day reaction: WOW! Man is she incredible! Students past, present will attest on behalf of her that she refuses to use a traditional, bland text for her course....that's why she has you buy Way We Never Were, an eye opener and one that is going to crush the utopian ideology of our so called "ideal family" Next, she is a natural Phyllis Diller---so overcome with laughter it was never a dull moment for anyone. All her materials are presented as handouts, so don't even buy the main text (besides it is a handout of the major chapters). Buy however, Way We Never Were (You will be using this alot). All midterms and exams are take home. Note to all psychotically freaked out students: You have relief from the voices outside your heads and can study and perform in peace. Final is super easy (an analysis of a film, a choice between Mona Lisa Smile and the Family Man 3-5 pps). I would recommend Langie for an not to difficult class and one that is fun (if the class cooperates, there will be lots of fun stuff in store) Trust me on this one.
