Professor Rutledge is deemed a very difficult professor, but I absolutely loved this class. I had it on Saturdays, and it's really the only way to take this class. He likes the Saturday class, so it turns out better for everyone. It is challenging, though. Attendance is required; there is no such thing as an excused absence, and if you're absent/late too many times, he starts taking points off your final grade. What he doesn't tell you, however, is that if you have perfect attendance, you get two bonus points added to your final grade. The course is really designed so that it is not hard to pass, but you have to actually try. You can't fluff your papers, because he grades them fairly critically. You have three papers and three tests. the first two tests are all essay and are tough. The last test is 100 questions matching/multiple choice/true-false. Like 9 or 10 very small quizzes, of which he drops the lowest. I made B's on two of the papers, a B on one of the tests, and because I aced the easy, easy quizzes, got an A on one of my tests and one of my papers, it was basically impossible for me to pass the last test and not have an A mathematically. I highly recommend this professor if you don't mind coming to every class and actually trying on the assignments (you don't even have to try that hard; you just have to try.) He really makes learning fun and has so much to teach. Don't let the hype fool you; if you're here to learn, and don't mind coming to class, don't miss the chance to take this professor.
